Ready to get started?
While learning to read and spell may feel like a long road, you are not alone.
What We Do
At Sunrise Reading Solutions, we understand that despite the good intentions of educators and schools, adequate research-based interventions are not being utilized in classrooms for our struggling readers and spellers.
As an Ontario Certified Teacher, Caitlin is passionate about building up confident students while bridging their gaps in literacy. We anchor our instruction in the Barton Reading & Spelling program, which provides a multi-sensory approach to the explicit, structured, and systemic interventions that struggling readers require. By utilizing the Barton program and supplementing with other trusted literacy drills, we work passionately to provide your child with the foundations for lifelong literacy success.
Ensuring the
right fit.
Did you know? Not all reading interventions are created equal! The majority of Sunrise Students are those who are in need of a simultaneous reading AND spelling approach.
Before joining us, students often experience some of the following:
They find class spelling tests to be exceedingly difficult, and they cannot remember their sight words week after week (especially words like “friend” and “because”)
They often express a dislike of reading and a lack of confidence in school (despite being smart, creative, and clever kids!)
When presented with an unfamiliar word, they have difficulty sounding it out regardless of the amount of phonics instruction they have already received.
When they write, their spelling is creative, but not as accurate as it needs to be.
They are capable of reading, but likely exhibit slowness and inaccuracies as they go - often “guessing” words as needed.
Is your child experiencing any of these challenges? Get in touch with us and find out how we can help!
Bye-Bye, Zoom Boredom!
It’s been a long year. When your child comes to us, they have the choice to ditch conventional platforms like Zoom by joining us on the interactive three-dimensional world of Koala. This free app is compatible with most devices and engages the senses in a way Zoom can’t. Watch Caitlin in action below!
Our Approach
Sunrise Reading Solutions works specifically with struggling readers of all ages using the Barton Reading & Spelling Program.
This program uses the following approaches:
Simultaneous Multi-Sensory
Engages the tactile, auditory, visual, and kinesthetic senses at the same time
Systematic
Brings students back to the foundations of language to ensure there are no “holes” in their understanding, then works upwards to teach the logic of written language in a way that they can understand and apply
Structured & Cumulative
Builds upon previous learning by using procedures students are familiar with
Synthetic & Analytic
Teaches students to build full words from small letter sounds, and--in turn--break long words down into readable syllables
Direct & Explicit
Students are taught exactly what the reading and spelling rules are along with their exceptions
Dyslexia affects 1 in 5 people in North America, making it one of the most common learning disabilities in schools.
Helping your child build confidence
Whether your child has been diagnosed with dyslexia or you suspect they need early intervention to build reading success, we are here to support you!
Every child deserves the confidence that comes with compassionate, research-based literacy interventions, and we look forward to helping your young reader shine!
Hear from our happy clients
“Caitlin has made such a positive impact in my son’s life. With her support and encouragement his ability to tackle new words when reading and spelling is improving steadily, and I have observed his self esteem grow, as a result. Through his work with Caitlin on the Susan Barton Reading and Spelling System, my son is building a strong foundation for reading and spelling, and as he has progressed through the levels he has become more and more confident.”

“Caitlin has started working on written expression with my son. He is so happy at the end of these sessions. Caitlin makes her sessions fun and uses a variety of activities to keep the students engaged and provide repetition of concepts learned. Her ability to connect with students and teach writing concepts is excellent. We are so fortunate to have Caitlin in our lives!”
- Parent of a Grade 5 student
We are so thankful for all of Caitlin’s hard work and dedication to tutoring our son. She takes a genuine interest, she cares and has gone out of her way when working with our son over the past two years. She is engaging, patient and understands the frustration our son deals with being Dyslexic. He loves working with her, and as a parent, that’s the best! Caitlin is very supportive to me and my husband as well and we will be forever grateful!
- Parent of a Grade 6 student
“Caitlin is truly wonderful with our daughter. Her patience is amazing especially on those days our daughter is lacking motivation. She brings positivity to every session that makes it feel less like “work” and more like fun. We are so lucky to have Caitlin as a tutor and she has made an incredible difference in our daughter’s reading.”
