Our Policies

Note: Our complete policy is discussed before beginning with your child.

The Research Is Clear

Unfortunately, there is no quick fix to reading remediation, and it doesn’t simply “get better with time” for most struggling learners.

The research is clear: dyslexic and struggling readers require sequential, evidence-based, multi-sensory approaches to reading and writing, and this takes consistency to teach and practise. As Susan Barton (founder of the Barton Reading & Spelling system) says

“Once a week is not enough. Do not start the Barton System if you can only tutor once a week. That is not frequent or intense enough for it ‘to stick.’”

As a tutoring company that uses the Barton system, we follow all Barton guidelines to facilitate success for our clients. This means that we require your child to take part in the program for a minimum of 2 hours per week (8 per month). This comprehensive program is intense as it serves to address gaps in reading and spelling.

If for any reason you need to withdraw your child, cancellations are allowed with 30 days notice.

Tuition Model

Life is busy, and we know that tutoring isn’t the only thing on your family’s plate!

To better serve our busy urban kids and parents, we have established a tuition model that factors in sick days and holidays which help to lower monthly costs and provide a reliable schedule for your child.

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

For the safety of us all, we have introduced a set of COVID-19 protocols during tutoring times. Please note that these only apply for in-person sessions.

  • Self-Assessments: Students and Tutors will be required to fill out a Covid-19 self-assessment screening prior to each session.

  • Educator PPE: Due to the nature of reading and spelling remediation, masks can negatively impact the way we hear sound. Therefore, students are not required to wear a face mask. Educators will wear a complete face shield when tutoring to prevent the spread and contraction of the virus while ensuring students can hear and see us. While we recommend the same for students, a face shield is not required.

  • Material Cleansing: All materials are thoroughly cleansed before and after sessions with each student. Students are always provided their own bin and writing utensils.

  • Plexiglass Barrier: Based on the evolving situation, tutors may opt to use a plexiglass barrier when tutoring to reduce the spread. This is portable and will fit on a standard table or desk while allowing us to work seamlessly with your child.
